Misti Z. Barnett

Misti Z. Barnett, an associate with Haliczer, Pettis & Schwamm, concentrates her practice in the areas of appellate law and litigation support in various areas, including medical malpractice, personal injury, civil rights, and employment, in state and federal court.

She received her juris doctor in 1988 from Brooklyn Law School in Brooklyn, New York and graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and English in 1985 from the State University of New York at Albany in Albany, New York.

Prior to her position at Haliczer, Pettis & Schwamm, Ms. Barnett was a Career Staff Attorney to the Honorable George A. Shahood (retired) for 11 years at the Fourth District Court of Appeal in West Palm Beach, Florida. As an appellate staff attorney, Ms. Barnett has had extensive experience in all facets of appellate law, research and writing. Ms. Barnett was also a trial court law clerk to various Circuit Court judges at the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court in Broward County, Florida, in the civil, criminal and family court divisions.

Ms. Barnett is admitted to the Florida, New York and Connecticut Bars as well as the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. She is the Vice-Chair of The Florida Bar Journal/News Editorial Board. Her other professional affiliations include membership in the Broward County Bar Association – Appellate Practice Section, Broward County FAWL, and the Federal Bar Association – Broward County Chapter.
