Florida law provides statutory protection for employers

Did you know that Florida law provides statutory protection for employers who provide job references for former employees, even when the information provided is negative or derogatory, so long as it is truthful?

Most employers follow the if-you-don’t-have-something-nice-to-say-don’t-say-anything-at-all kind of job references. Others or simply have an unwritten policy that they will only provide prospective employers with the dates of employment regarding a former employee. Florida law does, however, provide protection for employers who provide truthful information, even if negative, to the prospective employer of a former employee. To review the statute, click here.
